Hanks visited the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, and while there, he admitted that a sequel to Forrest Gump was in talks at one point–but only for about 40 minutes. The 66-year-old was asked, via The Independent, why very few of his well-known films have sequels, including Forrest Gump. Hanks told the host, “I will say that, with a long time in between, we did take a stab at talking about another Forrest Gump that lasted all of 40 minutes.” He then shared how the conversation ended: “And then we never- we said, ‘Guys, come on.’” It seems like a second movie all about the beloved character of Forrest Gump was seriously considered, but in the end, Hanks, and the other people involved, thought it was better to leave it alone. Along with Forrest Gump, many of Hanks’ other most successful movies are standalone films. In the podcast episode, Hanks said that he only makes a sequel when he feels that the character or story warrants one. The Oscar-winning actor stated, “A smart thing I did is I’ve never signed a contract that had a contractual obligation to a sequel. I’ve always said, ‘Guys, if there’s a reason to do it, let’s do it. But you guys can’t force me.’” He went on to highlight how sequels tend to be greenlit after a movie becomes a major hit at the box office, saying, “There is that natural inclination that is one of pure commerce that says, ‘Hey, you just had a hit, so do it again and you’ll have a hit.’" Forrest Gump, which won six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role for Hanks, was directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also directed the new Pinocchio film for Disney+, which was released on Sept. 8. According to Box Office Mojo, the 1994 film made over $678 million worldwide during its initial release. Forrest Gump was recently adapted for Indian audiences by Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, as reported by Deadline. More News:
