Buster Welch, a legendary Texas cowboy who offered real-life advice on an episode of Yellowstone season 4 died Sunday, June 12. He was 94. In this past season of Yellowstone, in an episode called “Under a Blanket of Red,” Jimmy (Jefferson White) was exiled to the famous 6666 Ranch in Texas to undergo some much-needed cowboy training as he didn’t seem to learn much while he was at Yellowstone. There, he met two well-experienced cowboys. One was Ross (Barry Corbin) and the other was Buster Welch. After the exchange, the foreman tells Jimmy, “There are three Gods in Texas: the Almighty, Buster Welch and George Strait. You just met one of them." If you’re wondering who Welch is, he is a famed horse trainer who has been inducted into the NCHA Members Hall of Fame, American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame, National Cutting Horse Association Riders Hall of Fame and like Corbin, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. A lifelong Texan, Welch’s ancestry can be traced back to Tennessee as well as early pre-Civil War settlers in Texas. At age 13, Welch left home and got a job herding cattle and breaking horses for the Proctor cattlemen in Midland, Texas. It was there he learned the foundation that eventually made him a famed cutting horse trainer. Welch later worked on many famed and prominent horse ranches including the 6666 as well as the Long X, King Ranch and Pitchfork Ranch. After his passing, Yellowstone tweeted: Ian Bohen, who plays Ryan on Yellowstone, replied to the tweet: Over on Instagram, the Four Sixes Ranch posted: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CeukwQDgXAd/ Fans of Buster Welch and Yellowstone tweeted about Welch’s passing: Rest in peace, Mr. Welch.
