On the movie side, House of Gucci and The Power of the Dog lead the pack of 2022 contenders, racking up three nominations each—although both films were arguably snubbed in some categories: The Power of the Dog nabbed individual nods for lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch and supporting stars Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee, yet improbably did not receive a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga and Jared Leto got nominated for their work in House of Gucci, as did the film’s cast as a whole, yet Adam Driver was shut out for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. Other major movie snubs? Kristen Stewart was not nominated for her towering performance in the Princess Diana biopic Spencer (although she’d later nab an Oscar nom); neither were two acclaimed ingenues making their big debuts: Alana Haim for Licorice Pizza and Rachel Zegler for West Side Story. As for TV, Ted Lasso and Succession scored a whopping five nominations apiece, including an ensemble nom for each, as well as individual noms for Succession’s Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook, plus Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple. Who is the 2022 SAG Awards host?
No host has been announced for this year’s ceremony; however, it was recently announced that the show will begin with a mini-Hamilton reunion onstage when Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs open the ceremony. There wasn’t an official host last year for the 2021 awards, either. In 2020, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy opened and closed that year’s SAGs, but they made a point of announcing that they weren’t technically the hosts multiple times.
Who is presenting at the 2022 SAG Awards?
As is tradition at the SAG Awards, several stars from each of the movies up for Outstanding Performance by a Cast will jointly present clips from their respective films. Who votes for the SAG Awards?
Active members who are in good standing of SAG-AFTRA and who reside in the US and Canada vote for the winners. SAG-AFTRA is comprised of two labor unions, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which represent over 100,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists and other media professionals.
Who will be honored at the 2022 SAG Awards?
Dame Helen Mirren will receive the 2022 SAG Life Achievement Award, given to actors who foster the “finest ideals of the acting profession.” Mirren has said in a statement about the honor, “Since I was a young actor starting out, I have always been inspired by and learned from American screen acting, so this award is particularly meaningful for me.” Mirren’s honor will be presented to her by another British acting icon, Kate Winslet. SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher added in a statement, “Dame Helen Mirren is quite simply a brilliant and luminous talent.
