The jackpot continued to grow after there were no reported winners during Saturday’s drawing of white balls 19, 31, 40, 46, 57, and the red Powerball 23. The next drawing, set to take place on Oct. 31, offers jackpot winnings of an estimated $1 billion (or $497.3 million cash)–something lottery officials have stated only happened one other time in the lottery’s 30-year history. If a player wins Monday’s jackpot, it will be the second largest jackpot in Powerball history, following the world record $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot, and the fifth largest jackpot in United States lottery history, according to a press release. Despite there being no jackpot winner on Oct. 29, six tickets played in several states–including California, Maryland, Texas, and Michigan–won a $1 million prize after matching all five white balls. A lucky Floridian doubled their winnings to $2 million by including the Power Play. Powerball officials have also reported that at least 80 participants matched at least four numbers and the Powerball, winning $50,000 each. An additional 17 tickets matched four digits, the Powerball and the Power Play, earning them $150,000 each. The Powerball jackpot was last hit on August 3, when a ticket in Pennsylvania matched all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a $206.9 million jackpot. Since then, there have been 37 drawings in a row with no grand prize winner, per the release. Monday night’s drawing will be the 38th attempt at a jackpot winner and the second largest total since January 2016, when three winning tickets were drawn in California, Florida, and Tennessee.
