Adapted from a Danish series, Suspect (which is its working title so far) will find Nesbitt playing veteran detective Danny Frater, who makes a routine visit to the mortuary for an ID check on a deceased young woman—only to discover that it’s his estranged daughter, Christina (Imogen King). Heughan shared the news on Sept. 30 when he retweeted a fan’s post about the miniseries; that same day, he also seemed to indicate that production on Suspect may already be underway when he tweeted a meme of a woozy cat along with the caption, “Just finished work… #nightshoots.”

What is Sam Heughan’s next project Suspect about?

After the coroner decides to rule Christina’s death a suicide, Det. Danny Frater refuses to accept that verdict and decides to investigate. As he searches for answers as to what happened to her in the days prior to her death, he interviews those closest to her—including her godfather, played by Heughan, as well as her best friend, Maia (Antonia Thomas), her business partner (Sacha Dhawan) and her romantic partner (Niamh Algar). As he interviews Christina’s friends, family, and business associates, Frater hears contradictory statements, which he has to sift through to determine if someone is responsible for her death, or if in fact, it is suicide. Nesbitt said in a press release for the series: “I could relate to Danny, with his flaws, vulnerabilities and the devastating situation he faces, from the very first moment I picked up the script. Each episode is an intensely theatrical double-hander, a psychological battle of wits between Danny and another character who may know something about his daughter’s untimely death, and I really can’t wait to lock horns with my fellow cast members and to lead this incredible array of acting talent.” Suspect will also feature Oscar-nominated actor Richard E. Grant, who plays Christina’s mentor, Harry; Ben Miller, who plays Frater’s boss: Joely Richardson, who plays the pathologist who performs the autopsy; and Anne-Marie Duff, who plays Christina’s mother, Susannah, who is also Danny’s ex-wife.

Is Sam Heughan leaving Outlander?

Don’t worry, Heughligans: There’s no indication that Heughan will be walking away from his role as Jamie Fraser in Outlander due to Suspect shooting duties.
